LSA Webinar: Updates in Vocal Fold Scar: Physiology and Management

  • Sydney, NSW Australia (map)

Welcome to our first webinar in the 2022 LSA Webinar series. The topics this year have been chosen on the basis of a survey of educational goals conducted among LSA members in late 2021, with one of the main areas of interest being that of vocal fold scar.

The webinar will consist of two international expert guest lectures, followed by a live Q&A session. Dr Lucian Sulica will talk on the Management and Clinical Aspects of Vocal Fold Scar, while Dr Susan Thibeault will talk on the Physiology and Basic Science aspects of Vocal Fold Scar.

Dr Lucian Sulica is the President-Elect of the American Laryngological Association, and Director of the Sean Parker Institute for the Voice, at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He is a world expert on the medical and microsurgical management of voice disorders, and in 2021 received the American Laryngological Association's Casselberry Award for distinguished research in laryngology, awarded only 27 times in its 105-year history, for work on the mechanics of vocal fold injury.

Dr Susan Thibeault is the Medical Director of the Speech & Hearing Services at UW Health and the Diane M. Bless Endowed Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dr. Thibeault’s translational research investigates molecular and genetic factors that are the basis of normal vocal fold tissue and its vibration. Dr Thibeault studies vocal fold injury and wound healing as a disordered model. Specifically, Dr Thibeault’s lab has two main areas of study — tissue engineering of the vocal fold lamina propria and laryngeal immunology.
